June finds on Netflix

May has been a whirlwind of weddings, milestone birthdays and referendum parties so the nana in me has been enjoying chilling out on the couch and getting my Netflix on. Here’s what we’ve been overdosing on.

For the mums and dads

Orange is the New Black,Season 3
If you have Netflix, you must be aware of this kick ass comedy drama set in an upstate New York prison. It’s a truly unique piece of television in that it features a mainly female cast of all shapes, sizes and races. Season 3 doesn’t quite have the same emotional punch and fireworks of previous seasons but it rights itself after a dodgy start and there are plenty more memorable moments to savour for the staff and inmates of Litchfield Prison.

The Good Wife
I flew through the first four seasons of this riveting courtroom drama and was delighted to see that the fifth season has been added on Netflix. The acting and story lines are superb and I want to be Kalinda, the mysterious tough as nails private investigator employed by the firm, when I grow up.

Daredevil
An original Netflix series, this is bang on trend with the current slew of superhero films and TV on offer. It’s vigilante servings of justice doled out by the blind protagonist make for dark and emotive viewing.

Sense 8
Another original Netflix series, this focuses on the bizarre telepathic connection between eight strangers around the world. It’s a pumped up sci-fi saga from the Wacowski brothers, well brother and sister now. Think Heroes meets X-Men and you’re on the right track. Entertaining stuff so far.

For the minis

The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This was one of the very first books that Mini received as a present and she always loved the colour of it. This is a rather sweet cartoonization of the famous story book with a few other stories brought to life.

Aladdin
This is one of those Disney films I bookmarked to share with the minis. We watched it last weekend and they loved it,in particular Princess Jasmine. Robin Williams turn as the genie still delights after all these years and the exotic setting flourishes in glorious technicolour.

Disclaimer:I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team and was given a free subscription to the service for a year in exchange for regular updates. All opinions remain my own unique musings.
