Netflix Feisty Females Doing it for Themselves

Netflix logoNew on Netflix:

Here is what we have been watching on Netflix recently. As the mum of two feisty girls, I am always on the look out for strong female role models. The streaming service doesn’t disappoint with its latest offering of Netflix feisty females doing it for themselves.

Netflix Feisty Females for Mums:

Grace and Frankie (Season 3)

In Grace and Frankie, Jane Fonda (“Grace”) and Lily Tomlin (“Frankie”) star as two women whose lives are suddenly turned upside down when their husbands reveal they are gay and leave them for each other. Both sparring partners and partners-in-crime, they form an unlikely bond to face an uncertain future together and discover a new definition of “family,” with laughter, tears and plenty of mood enhancers along the way. Seasons 1-3 are available on Netflix.

Girlboss

Created and executively produced by Kay Cannon ( Pitch Perfect , Pitch Perfect 2 , 30 Rock ), Girlboss stars Britt Robertson as the scrappy and stylish Sophia Marlowe. Charlize Theron and Amoruso also serve as executive producers.

The story is that of Sophia Amoruso becomes a broke college dropout in her early 20s. She ultimately finds her passion of selling clothes online and six years later, has amassed a personal net worth of $180 million-plus and 350 employees.

Set in San Francisco in the mid-aughts – a time when MySpace, Blackberrys and The OC dominated the cultural conversation – Girlboss follows Sophia’s journey from being bummed-out and broke to the boss of her own life. The cast includes Ellie Reed as her best friend, Annie; Johnny Simmons as her boyfriend, Shane; and Dean Norris as her father. The series’ supporting cast includes comedic heavy hitters like RuPaul Charles , Jim Rash , Nicole Sullivan and Norm MacDonald.

Netflix Feisty Females for minis:

Cinderella

Fatherless Ella endures harsh treatment by her stepmother and stepsisters until a chance meeting with a stranger leads to a magical change in fortune. I love the cinematography of this remake and a feistier Cinderella than in previous animated incarnations makes this an all round winner!

Matilda

Based on the novel by Roald Dahl, this film sees Matilda, a young genius, navigate her mean parents and horrible principal whilst finding loyal friends and a kindhearted teacher. This was one of my favourite books as a child. I could really identify with Matilda as the tiny child going up against the villanous grown-ups. The big screen adaptation does not disappoint!
