Minis and Mum Loves

This is our new regular slot where we celebrate companies, shops and services for their inclusive nature regarding those with disabilities. If you have any you would like to see featured, please drop us a line.

This week, Minis and Mum love the Omniplex Cinemas Group who have announced they will be screening weekly subtitled films for the deaf or hard-of-hearing; as well as sensory screenings for children with autism. The initiative will commence across all 22 of Omniplex’s cinemas and is designed as part of the company’s social responsibility programme aimed at providing access to the cinema for people with disabilities. The evening programme commences on tonight,Monday 10th August with subtitled screenings of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION. The kid’s programme commences with Early Bird screenings of Disney Pixar’s ‘INSIDE OUT’ on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August. These will be joint subtitled and sensory screenings, so that they can be attend by children with hearing impairments and those with autism.

Kids with Down syndrome often have sensory processing disorders similar to those with autism so they would benefit too from these types of screenings. We have brought Mini a few times to the cinema and each time she has reacted badly to the noise levels. A screening like this would definitely make going to the cinema less stressful for families like ours.

This is a fantastic initiative by Omniplex and one which truly promotes inclusivity.

For full listings information or to book a film please see Omniplex’s website. Future movies that will be screened in subtitles will be announced in Omniplex’s Facebook page or on the website
